Joint Statement of T&I Chair Sam Graves and Railroads Subcommittee Chair Troy Nehls on Freight Rail Border ClosuresTransportation and Infrastructure Committee Chairman Sam Graves (R-MO) and Railroads, Pipelines, and Hazardous Materials Subcommittee Chairman Troy Nehls (R-TX) joint statement on the U.S. Customs and Border Protections (CBP) closure of freight rail crossings at Eagle Pass and El Paso, Texas: “The Biden Administration’s failed immigration policies and unwillingness to stem the flow of illegal migration are having a direct impact on transportation, international commerce, and the supply chain. This isn’t the first time this year that CBP was forced to close down freight rail crossings in order to deal with the challenges posed by the Biden border crisis, and the problems are getting worse. A prolonged shutdown of the tracks will have a disastrous impact on the supply chain and commerce, and this is just one of many reasons this administration needs to get this border crisis under control immediately.” In October, Chairman Nehls stressed the importance of balancing border protection and maintaining the freight supply chain.
