Graves Announces Departure of Committee Republican Staff Director
Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Ranking Member Sam Graves (R-MO) today announced that Republican Staff Director Paul J. Sass is departing the Committee.
“Paul first joined me over 20 years ago, and he quickly climbed the ranks in my personal and committee offices because of the invaluable insight, knowledge, and advice he has always provided,” said Graves. “For the last 3 ½ years, since I took over as this committee’s Republican leader, Paul has skillfully led our staff in many successful efforts to improve the quality and safety of our Nation’s infrastructure. No one has worked with more commitment and dedication to public service than Paul. I want to thank him for his service, his guidance, his loyalty, and his friendship over these last two decades. I wish him and his family the very best as he moves on to the next phase of his already accomplished career.”
Sass has served as the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee’s Republican Staff Director since 2019. During that time, he led the Republican staff during the negotiations of many significant, bipartisan infrastructure laws, including multiple Water Resources Development Acts and Coast Guard authorization bills; the Aircraft Certification, Safety, and Accountability Act; and the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act. In addition, he led Republican staff in the development of multiple surface transportation reauthorization proposals and during the broader infrastructure negotiations.
Sass also previously served as the Deputy Staff Director of the Small Business Committee, as well as a number of positions in Graves’ personal office, including Chief of Staff.
Sass will depart the Committee at the end of this week. Additional information about his next position and changes to the T&I Republican staff leadership will be announced at a later date.
